WASHINGTON (AP) — The American Bar Association has urged the Senate Judiciary Committee and the full Senate to slow down on the vote on Brett Kavanaugh for a position on the Supreme Court until the FBI has time to do a full background check on claims of sexual assault made by Christine Blasey (blah-zee) Ford and other women.
“We make this request because of the ABA’s respect for the rule of law and due process under law,” the ABA letter to committee leadership said. “Each appointment to our nation’s highest court (as with all others) is simply too important to rush to a vote.”
The Judiciary committee plans a vote on Kavanaugh Friday.
Also this:
There is simply no compelling urgency, nor need to put someone with such grave questions hanging over him on the Supreme Court. There is no right or entitlement to such an office and there are plenty of other equally qualified people without this baggage. Not only should there be a full investigation, but the committee must call all witnesses in person so they can be cross-examined. No court in the land would accept declarations, sworn or not, in lieu of live witnesses who are easily available to testify.
Republicans have to double down before the public has time to fully understand how hideous and unprofessional Kav’ s performance was, but they’re fooling themselves if they think the taint will dissipate.
The Republican Party no longer considers the Supreme Court to be a deliberative body of deep and diverse thought about our foundational principles.
Rather, Republicans consider the Court to be a simple blunt instrument to enforce a single, narrow ideology about the service of individuals to corporate and government aristocrats.
Especially the service of girls and women. They’ve got definite ideas for them.
This gives the cowards Collins, Murkowski, Flake some cover
