Acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker on Monday confirmed that he had been fully briefed on special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation and it was his understanding that the probe was “close to being completed.”

“I hope that we can get the report from Director Mueller as soon as possible,” Whitaker said. He made the comments at a press conference for the unveiling of unrelated charges against the Chinese company Huawei.

Whitaker was asked about comments he made before he joined the Justice Department that were critical of Mueller’s investigation.

The statements that I made were as a private citizen only with publicly available information,” he said, adding that he was “comfortable” that the decisions that have been made are going to be reviewed “through the various means we have.”
