GOP Pile-On: Third Top Republican Blames Hastert

Another top House GOP official plays the blame game — with Hastert losing: but these are harsh words coming from the GOP’s 3rd in command in the House, Majority Whip Roy Blunt (R-MO):

. . . [Blunt’s] remarks to reporters in Springfield, Mo., were no endorsement of the speaker’s actions.

“I think I could have given some good advice here, which is you have to be curious, you have to ask all the questions you can think of,” Blunt said. “You absolutely can’t decide not to look into activities because one individual’s parents don’t want you to.”

House Speaker John Boehner (R-MI) and GOP House campaign chair Tom Reynolds (R-NY) have already made public statements blaming Speaker Dennis Hastert for mishandling the Foley scandal. A fourth member, Rep. Rodney Alexander (R-LA), who sponsored one of the pages with whom Foley had inappropriate e-mail contact, has also fingered Hastert as knowing more than he’s let on about the “over-friendly” emails.
