DeLay To Reenter Race?

Looks like we might have Tom DeLay to kick around some more.

Republicans still await the result of an appeal to Thursday’s decision, but if they lose again, and DeLay is forced to remain on the ballot, it looks like he’d reenter rather than let the Democrats easily claim the seat. If he won, the speculation runs, he’d retire and Texas Governor Rick Perry would hold a special election to replace him.*

From KHOU in Texas:

“Well, it’s gonna be a difficult situation, I think, to handle,” DeLay himself, speaking to a lunch crowd of suppoters has given a hint of what might happen if that judge’s order stands.

“I am forced to be on the ballot. And the Democrats are just loving it. Well, they may get exactly what they want,” said DeLay.

His supporters roared their approval, but later, their former congressman wasn’t ready to commit. “Well, I didn’t annouce that. We’re going to have to wait and see what the Fifth Circuit Court does with the appeal.”

*Update: Gov. Perry wouldn’t be able to nominate his replacement, as I originally wrote. Thanks to TPMm reader MN.
