Texas Democratic gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis (D) is getting some help from the Red Headed Stranger.
Country music star Willie Nelson, a Texas native, will perform at a backyard barbecue fundraiser for Davis on April 27.
“We’ll have some amazing Texas BBQ. We’ll be talking about the future of our great state. And at the end of the night, we’ll have a special performance by Willie,” Davis said in a fundraising email.
Nelson is an outspoken proponent of legalizing marijuana and same-sex marriage.
Earlier this campaign season Davis’ Republican opponent in the race, Attorney General Greg Abbott, campaigned with conservative rock musician Ted Nugent.
