Hours before he performed at the White House on Thursday, country music star and activist Willie Nelson said he suspected President Obama is “happy” with marijuana legalization.
“I think I realize how he feels about it, and I’ve read some of his books and things about how he was a kid, he may have delved into that matter a bit,” Nelson told CNN’s Brooke Baldwin.
“So I’m sure he’s very understanding of what’s going on and he may be happy to be see it happening,” he added.
A longtime advocate for legalization, Nelson told Baldwin that he expects the commerce from pot sales in states like Colorado and Washington will convince the rest of the country to follow suit.
The singer has had his own legal problems relating to marijuana; he has been arrested for possession four times since the 1970s.
Nelson performed on the White House South Lawn Thursday night in a concert for U.S. veterans along with Mary J. Blige, Common, John Fogerty and Romeo Santos.

Not as happy as Willie!
Willie for POTUS.
So how are conservatives handling Willie Nelson these days? He’s Country and Libertarian, but damn if he doesn’t come across as downright liberal on most issues.
The last time Willie Nelson played The White House he went up to the roof to blow a joint between sets, which he never should have made public because it embarrassed the hell out of Jimmy Carter. Those where different times
Sorry Willie, but I don’t think pot legalization is even on Obama’s radar.
