White House Press Secretary Jay Carney told reporters on Monday that President Obama remains “confident” that Chuck Hagel will be confirmed as defense secretary. “Broadly speaking, the president feels … Sen. Hagel did fine and answered the questions that were asked of him,” Carney said, according to a White House pool report.
Hagel faced a grilling from Republican Senators at his confirmation hearing before the Senate Armed Services Committee last week.
