Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump brushed off Sunday the several hundred protesters that prevented him from driving up to his campaign event yesterday, saying that it was a “love fest.”

Trump had to ditch his car on the way to the event in Burlingame, California where he was set to kick off the California Republican Convention. Instead of confronting the protesters, Trump exited his car on the freeway to access a side entrance to the building.

Trump told “Fox News Sunday” host Chris Wallace that there were no riots.

“It was like a love fest for an hour and a half. It was incredible. I didn’t even see the riot,” Trump said.

He went on to say that there are “wise guys” and “professional agitators” who wear masks and “stomp on policeman’s cars.”

“These people have to be dealt with very strongly. Because you can’t allow that to happen to a police car, you know, essentially,” Trump said.

There have been a string of incidents during Trump’s campaign in which a supporter of his violently attacks protesters. Trump once said that he would pay the legal fees of supporters who go after protesters.
