Right-wing rocker Ted Nugent on Tuesday had harsh words for a congressman who questioned why the “Cat Scratch Fever” artist was attending President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address.
Asked by reporters before the State of the Union for his thoughts on Rep. Jim Langevin (D-RI), a vocal gun control advocate who was paralyzed by an accidental gun shot when he was 16 and who evidently wondered why Nugent would be in the House chamber for Obama’s speech, Nugent lashed out. The musician and firebrand called Langevin a “Ted hater” and dismissed the notion that he was making a threat when he said last year that he would be “dead or in jail” if Obama was re-elected. That inflammatory remark drew the attention of the Secret Service, who then met with Nugent.
“I threatened the President? Are you kidding me? Why don’t you just say that I’m a gay pirate? You’ve got to be kidding me,” Nugent said to reporters, as quoted by Politico. “Why don’t you talk to the Secret Service guys who visited me and concluded nothing even hinted a threat against the president.”
He then said of Langevin, “He probably has shit for brains.”
Nugent was a guest of Rep. Steve Stockman (R-TX) at the State of the Union.
