Democratic Rep. Tammy Baldwin, who’s running for the Senate in Wisconsin, issued the following statement on the Blunt Amendment in an email to supporters Thursday:

Any minute the US Senate is going to take a vote on the Blunt Amendment, one of the most dangerous and overreaching bills I’ve seen in some time. It’s a plan to grant health insurance giants and corporate executives the power to strip away employees’ benefits, line by line, under any “immoral” objection — without explanation or advance notice. The language is vague and its consequences are untold: contraceptives, maternity care, grandpa’s insulin or your son’s antibiotics could all be at risk. All because your boss doesn’t believe — or claims not to believe.

The Blunt Amendment and the controversy over the administration’s contraception coverage rule has become an issue in the election and particularly in Senate races.

“Senate progressives like Senators Barbara Boxer, Sherrod Brown, and Al Franken are fighting to protect women’s right to basic health care,” Baldwin’s email reads. “And, truth be told, I can’t wait to join them.”
