An officer at a South Carolina high school was seen flipping a student’s desk over backwards and dragging her across the floor for reportedly refusing to leave a classroom in shocking videos purportedly captured on Monday by other students.

Officials at Spring Valley High School in Columbia, S.C. said they were investigating the incident after the videos emerged. The confrontation between the female student and the school’s resource officer began after the student refused to leave class, television station WIS reported.

In videos posted online, the officer could be seen struggling with a female student seated in a desk before flipping the seat over backwards and dragging her along the ground while instructing her to “put your hands behind your back.”

“The student was told she was under arrest for disturbing school and given instructions when she again refused,” Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott told the station. “The video then shows the student resisting and being arrested.”

Officials had not released any further details about the incident.

  2. Sorry, but that’s assault. Totally uncalled for. I’m sure he was angry for having to deal with another one of those again and needed to show who was boss. But…that’s not how things are supposed to work. Just because someone refuses to follow orders doesn’t give police an excuse to use physical violence to punish non-compliance.

And yet…of course the sheriff didn’t see anything wrong in the video. If any citizen did what he did, they’d be in jail. And if a citizen did that to a cop, they’d likely be dead. But if a cop does it, that’s just the benefits of wearing a badge, since they’re allowed to use any means necessary to force compliance. Disgusting. The sooner these people realize that what they’re doing is wrong, the better things will be for the good cops…whoever they are.

Don’t really care the situation-- one is an adult, one is a kid.
This officer needs to be in another line of work-- if this is his bedside manner dealing with kids.

I hope you don’t have school-aged kids, and I feel very, very sorry for them if you do. IMO any parent who lets their kids go to a school with that type of aggressive moron working there should be investigated for abuse.

  5. Don’t know the income bracket here for the kids’ parents, but if it is lower middle class/poverty… then it is not like they have a lot of choices.
