The nation’s largest environmental advocacy group, The Sierra Club, late Thursday released a damning new report which chronicles a variety of efforts over the past decade by the fossil fuel industry and its supporters, including the Koch Brothers and the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), to undermine public and governmental support for clean energy.

The report finds that “the oil and gas industry spent more than $146 million on lobbying alone in 2011, while Big Oil tycoons David and Charles Koch gave at least $85 million to 85 right-wing ‘think tanks’ and advocacy groups” with the goals of promoting fossil fuels over clean energy alternatives and ending federal support for clean energy initiatives. The report calls out specific GOP legislators as well for being tools in this scheme, including Representative Mike Pompeo (R-KS).
