Former GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin took to Facebook on Friday to make what appeared to be her first veiled comments about the bloody brawl her family was allegedly involved in earlier this month at a house party in Alaska.

The post focused on how proud she was of her eldest daughter, Bristol Palin, who witnesses have said was seen repeatedly punching the owner of the house during the Sept. 6 melee in Anchorage. One witness who spoke to TPM described Bristol’s actions as “quite violent.”

“I love my Bristol!” Sarah Palin wrote in her Facebook post. “My straight-shooter is one of the strongest young women you’ll ever meet. I have to say this as a proud mama: right up there with their work ethic and heart for those less fortunate, my kids’ defense of family makes my heart soar!”

The former Alaska governor denounced the “liberal media-driven” adversity Bristol and her other children have faced:

Along with photos of Palin’s family, the post also included a link to a blog post Bristol had written the previous day that dismissed the media attention her family receives.

“Most of what the media reports about our family is complete garbage,” Bristol Palin wrote.

The rest of the post included a photo of her father kissing her mother in front of huge 5-0 birthday balloons. The post referred to what she said was a false story “on Yahoo’s front page” about her parents’ getting a divorce, though it was unclear exactly what she was referring to.

The house party earlier this month put the Palin family back in the national spotlight after witnesses reported seeing several members involved in multiple physical fights there. In addition to Bristol Palin’s alleged actions, witnesses have said Sarah Palin’s husband and son were also involved in the brawl. The family was reportedly celebrating husband Todd Palin’s 50th birthday that night.

Multiple eyewitnesses have said Sarah Palin herself was at the party, and one anonymous source told an Alaska journalist that the former vice presidential nominee was screaming profanities and “nearly crawling on top of people” during the brawl.
