A student at a town hall meeting at New England College Henniker put Rick Santorum on the spot by contrasting the conservative preference for states’ rights with a federal approach to social issues like gay marriage and medical marijuana laws. Santorum argued that the definition of marriage should not be left up to the states, but wasn’t sure how to articulate his response on marijuana because he was unsure where federal law came down on the issue. Finally, he defended his position against legal marijuana use saying it was formed by personal experiences: “I went to college too.”
