Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney has a lead in the polls ahead of the New Hampshire GOP primary, building support after he ran for president in 2008. But former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum argued to voters on the trail today in Sommersworth, New Hampshire that the establishment pick isn’t always the smart decision.

“Look at the guys who have run when it was ‘their turn.’ Let’s put up cause Bob Dole, cause he can win. Let’s put up John McCain, cause he can win,” Santorum said sarcastically.

Santorum went to say, much like former House Speaker Newt Gingrich did this morning, that a Republican candidate that provides a sharp contest with President Obama is what the party needs in 2012.
