Mitt Romney didn’t formally compete in the straw poll at the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference, but his strong family ties to the state (his father was governor) gave him a strong home field advantage. He took 50.1% of the 681 votes cast, versus 16.8% for Perry. Cain, who won an upset victory in Florida’s Straw Poll on Saturday, finished third with 8.5%. Both Romney and Perry spoke at the event.
