The White House on Thursday is expected to brief senior Republican and Democratic leaders in Congress along with the top ranking members of national security committees on the situation in Syria, ABC News reported.
With Congress on recess until Sept. 9, most lawmakers are expected to call into the meeting, according to the report, while others will attend in person.
House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) on Wednesday called on the Obama administration to provide more information on Syria. In an interview Wednesday, President Obama said that while no decision has been made on Syria, an attack would send a “strong signal.”
The U.S. has concluded that Syrian President Bashar Assad’s regime launched a chemical weapons attack last week near Damascus, reportedly killing at least 100 people. But a report from the Associated Press indicated that the intelligence linking Assad to such an attack is no “slam dunk.”
