Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) on Friday will announce that he plans to retire at the end of his current term, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
It had long been speculated that Chambliss might draw a primary challenge from another Republican in 2014, and his decision to not seek re-election will only heighten speculation that conservative Reps. Tom Price (R-GA) and Paul Broun (R-GA) will pursue the Senate seat.
After serving in the House of Represenatives for eight years, Chambliss was elected to the Senate in 2002.
