Immigration authorities have released over 2,000 detainees in recent weeks, according to documents obtained by the Associated Press. ICE officials said earlier that they had released “several hundred” detainees in response to the sequester cuts that took effect on Friday, and DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano has warned that the agency lacks the resources to maintain its daily number of detainees at past levels without greater funding. The AP reports that documents show another 3,000 detainees are expected to be released during March.
