The Gingrich/Romney fight seems to be taking a toll on the GOP’s general election matchups, according to the latest Purple Strategies poll of a dozen swing states. President Obama now leads Mitt Romney 47-43 in the surveyed states, up from 45-45 last month, and leads Gingrich 48-42, up from 46-44 last month. Obama’s approval ratings are still ugly — 41% approve of his performance versus 53% who disapprove — but he’s boosted by voters intense dislike of the leading Republican candidates. Just 29% of swing state voters have a favorable impression of Romney, versus 47% who have an unfavorable view.
