A petition on MoveOn.org is calling for a boycott of Florida tourism until the state’s ‘Stand Your Ground’ law is overturned. The petition statement reads:

Boycott Florida tourism until the “Stand Your Ground” law is overturned. Send a message to Florida that their state is not a safe place to vacation if their citizens are able to kill anyone they deem suspicious.

The petition will be delivered to the Florida House and Senate and Republican Gov. Rick Scott once it reaches the 2,000 signature threshold.

The “Stand Your Ground” law is a Florida law that states that a person can legally defend him or herself with deadly force against someone else if he or she has a “reasonable fear of imminent peril of death or great bodily harm to himself or herself or another.”

The petition comes in the wake of the George Zimmerman verdict that found the defendant not guilty of all charges related to the killing of Trayvon Martin.  The “Stand Your Ground” law has gained national attention from the case, but was not actually used in the trial as a part of Zimmerman’s defense.

As of 5:45 p.m., the petition had 1,925 signatures.

Below is the background of the petition as described on MoveOn.org:

Florida is not a safe place to take your family for vacation as long as Florida law permits a citizen to shoot or kill you for merely looking suspicious, and to do it with impunity. Boycott Florida tourism until this dangerous law is overturned. If the murder of Trayvon Martin isn’t enough to get lawmaker’s attention, maybe a loss in revenue to the state would be.
