A senior aide to Donald Trump, Paul Manafort, on Sunday said that leaked comments he made during a closed-door meeting with members of the Republican National Committee were “taken out of context.”

In a recording of a Thursday meeting, Manafort said that Trump has been “projecting an image” and that the candidate will soon pivot and reveal “the real person.”

During an interview on “Fox News Sunday,” Manafort said that he was discussing “evolving the campaign, not the candidate.” He told Fox News that the campaign’s settings will start to change, giving Trump more opportunities to talk policy, rather than simply hold rallies.

Manafort also responded to criticism from Cruz, who said that Trump had lied about his stance on immigration issues.

“I never said Trump wasn’t going to build the wall. I never said Trump was going to change any of his positions,” Manafort said on Sunday.

During a Saturday rally, Trump also told his supporters that he is “not toning it down.”
