Former Secretary of Defense and Director of the CIA Leon Panetta said Sunday that placing more of the U.S. drone program operations with the Pentagon would lead to greater transparency.

“The more we can probably put into the military, the better, because its a much more open process,” Panetta said on CBS’s “Face the Nation.” “But there are always going to be the need for the kind of distant operation that the CIA and the CIA alone can operate.”

The White House had been considering moving some drone operations from the CIA to the Defense Department, but the shift it not likely any time soon, if at all, according to Foreign Policy.
