Obama Announcing Initiatives To Boost School Safety

President Obama on Wednesday will announce initiatives intended to make schools safer in the wake of the Newtown, Conn., massacre, the White House said, including making sure schools have emergency action plans in place. 

The President will announce an initiative to help school districts hire up to 1,000 school resource officers and counselors nationwide. The Obama administration will pledge $150 million to the effort, the White House said. The administration will also propose helping 8,000 schools improve the culture and climate on campus.
