Missouri GOP Senate candidate Sarah Steelman is unfamiliar with Violence Against Women Act, which is up for reauthorization this year. “I’m not sure what that is because I’m not serving right now,” Steelman told a man who asked her about the bill. The Missouri Dems have a video of the exchange.
Though VAWA isn’t on Steelman’s radar, the Senate is expected to move forward on the bill, which contains some expansions that many Republicans oppose, next week. Democrats are launching a big effort to push the bill, and say Republican opposition is an example of the GOP’s hostility toward women.
Last month, neither Steelman nor her two primary rivals knew what the minimum wage was when asked in a debate.
