After initially showing no contrition, Rep. Michael Grimm (R-NY) finally reached out to apologize to the reporter he physically threatened on Tuesday night.

NY1’s Michael Scotto tweeted Wednesday that Grimm contacted him by phone to say that he “overreacted.” Scotto said he accepted Grimm’s apology.

Further proof that peace is at hand: Grimm said that he plans to grab lunch with Scotto.

During a televised interview after the State of the Union address, Scotto tried to ask Grimm about allegations regarding the congressman’s campaign financing. Grimm promptly ended the interview and stormed off camera before returning to the set to confront Scotto.

“Let me be clear to you, you ever do that to me again I’ll throw you off this fucking balcony,” Grimm told Scotto.

Grimm was unapologetic in the immediate aftermath of the incident. He blamed Scotto for a lack of “professionalism and respect” and said he doubts he’s the “first Member of Congress to tell off a reporter.”

Scotto said Wednesday that he’s never drawn such anger from a lawmaker.
