Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto again refuted Trump’s repeated claims that he will build a border wall at Mexico’s expense on Thursday, tweeting at the GOP nominee this time that “Mexico never would pay for a wall.”

Peña Nieto was unequivocal in his denial, which was written in Spanish: “I repeat what I said to you personally, Mr Trump: Mexico never would pay for a wall.”

Hours after a meeting with Peña Nieto on Wednesday, during which Trump claimed they “didn’t discuss” payment for his proposed border wall, the GOP candidate insisted in a speech in Arizona that “Mexico will pay for the wall, 100 percent. They don’t know it yet, but they’re going to pay for it.”

Peña Nieto then published an op-ed Thursday morning in a Mexican newspaper insisting that he had been “very clear” with Trump about doing no such thing.

“In my conversation with Trump about the border, I was also very clear: Mexico will not pay for any wall,” he wrote in Spanish.
