Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) said Sunday that he had “grave concerns” about Chuck Hagel’s nomination for defense secretary but that he would wait to see his answers to remaining questions from his confirmation hearing before making a final decision on whether he will vote to confirm him.

“Fair to say you’re leaning against voting for him?” host Chris Wallace asked on “Fox News Sunday.”

“I think that would be fair,” McCain said.

But McCain reaffirmed that he would oppose Republican efforts to filibuster Hagel’s confirmation. “The fact is, we have never filibustered a cabinet appointee and that [is] why I do not believe we should filibuster his nomination.” He added, “elections have consequences, unfortunately.”
