Commonwealth Court Judge Robert Simpson suggested Tuesday that he may stop Pennsylvania’s voter ID law from going into effect in November. The state Supreme Court ordered Simpson to issue an injunction blocking the law unless the state could prove it was offering “liberal access” to photo identification and that no voters would be disenfranchised.
“I think it’s possible there could be an injunction entered here,” Simpson said Tuesday, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “I need some input from people who have been thinking about this longer than I have.”
Simpson, whose original decision not to block the law was overturned by the Supreme Court, told lawyers to come to court on Thursday prepared to argue over what a possible injuction would look like.
