John Kiriakou, a former CIA officer indicted on espionage and obstruction of justice charges earlier this year, is scheduled to plea guilty in federal court this week. As first reported by NPR, court records indicated on Monday that a “change of plea” hearing has been scheduled for Tuesday at 11 a.m.
Critics said that DOJ’s pursuit of Kiriakou had more to do with his public comments about waterboarding than any damage he did to national security. Federal prosecutors alleged that Kiriakou had repeatedly disclosed classified information, including the name of a covert CIA officer, to journalists.
Correction: the hearing was scheduled for Tuesday, not Thursday as originally reported.
