CNN and Fox News are projecting former secretary of state Hillary Clinton as the winner of the Illinois Democratic primary.

With 93 percent of the vote counted, Clinton was winning the race at 50.5 percent. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) had garnered 48.6 percent of the vote.

NBC News labeled Clinton the “apparent winner” of the still-close election results.

Sanders had not posted any victories during Tuesday evening’s contests but was fighting in another very close race in Missouri as Illinois was called for Clinton.

TPM’s PollTracker Average showed a tight primary race in the state, with less than one point separating Clinton and Sanders.

While Clinton is well on her way to securing the delegates necessary to capture the Democratic nomination, Sanders’ insurgent campaign has scored a number of surprising victories, including a win in last week’s Michigan primary.

Huge night for Hillary. Dare I say it? Even better than expected…coming off the loss in Michigan last week.

I hope Bernie stays in to keep pushing Hillary leftward, but it’s most definitely over.

  3. In fairness, Illinois and Missouri are basically the same outcome as Michigan. The difference is, that ties are wins for Hillary and loses for Bernie.

  4. The Democrats have an embarrassment of riches in Hillary and Bernie. Like '08, the primary process is making the eventual nominee stronger. The battle to win each primary is not inflicting permanent damage on either. And like in '08, the nominee will win the White House in November.

The GOP, on the other hand, is simply an embarrassment. To themselves, our nation and the world.

Keep it going, Hillary! I’m proud to support you!

  5. This is all about the media narrative and the appearance of winning. It doesn’t matter whether or not HRC wins MO or IL, she would still win the delegate math by holding Sanders to a narrow victory that doesn’t net him enough delegates to move the needle.
