A House GOP leadership aide told TPM that President Obama did not outright reject their offer for a temporary debt-limit increase in exchange for budget negotiations.

“There was a useful conversation. The President did not say yes or no to House Republicans’ offer,” the aide said in an email. “Both sides are continuing the discussion tonight.”

Shortly after the meeting, the New York Times reported Obama had rejected the proposal because it didn’t include a plan to re-open the government.
