Presumptive presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton is making her first trip to Iowa since the 2016 speculation took full effect.

Politico reported Monday that Hillary and President Bill Clinton would attend Sen. Tom Harkin’s annual steak-fry dinner on Sept. 14, Clinton’s first return to the state since the 2008 primary. Clinton aides told Politico that the trip was all about paying tribute to Harkin, who is retiring when his term ends next year.

But the 2016 implications were impossible to ignore.

Some Iowan institutions had recently become a bit peeved with Clinton, who devoted a lot of energy to Iowa in 2008 only to lose handily, as the 2016 speculation heated up and she failed to make an appearance in the state with the first presidential nominating contest.
