In one of the most charming political ads of the election cycle, the wife of a Texas county commissioner begs viewers to re-elect her issues-obsessed husband and get him out of the house.
The ad features Republican Travis County Commissioner Gerald Daugherty rambling on about local issues while his wife sardonically notes that Daugherty can’t stop thinking about his work. Since the ad was released earlier this month, it went viral and gained national media attention.
In the opening scene, Gerald Daugherty is washing dishes with his wife, Charlyn Daugherty, and he is talking about the cost of maintaining the prison system. The camera pans to Charlyn Daugherty, who stares at the camera before lamenting, “Gerald doesn’t really have any hobbies.”
The ad goes on to show Gerald Daugherty talking to bored barbecue guests about taxes and light rail, and ends with Charlyn Daugherty asking viewers to “please” re-elect her husband to the county commission.

Wow. Beautiful spot, beautifully shot…like a little tongue in cheek horror movie. If this was a local or regional ad agency’s work, they are going to be getting a lot more business.
LOL…someone hasn’t been taking care of his marital duties like he should. Shut up about the “Messicans” and “moochers”, dude, and lay some pipe.
Issues-obsessed?
I thought he was a Republican…
That meat looks medium-well. If that’s (beef) steak, doesn’t that disqualify you for office and polite company in Texas?
It’s different—he doesn’t shoot anything—and it’s clever. Maybe he really is like that. But even if everyone involved is an amateur, it’s all a well-presented performance. Not sure “charming” is the word. Cute, I’d call it.
