An American man and his husband who hails from Bulgaria are the first same-sex couple to receive approval for a permanent resident visa, the New York Times reported Sunday.
Traian Popov, a Bulgarian immigrant who lives in Fort Lauderdale, Fl. with his spouse Julian Marsh, received notice of his green card on Friday. It served as an indication that President Barack Obama and his administration are responding promptly to the Supreme Court’s decision to strike down the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), the 1996 law that denied federal benefits to same-sex couples.
