SolarCity, the one-stop shop residential solar panel financing and installation company backed by billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk, will go public later this year, the company announced on Monday. SolarCity hasn’t yet revealed more details on the IPO, so it is yet to be known on what exchange it will trade, when and what valuation it is seeking. The company filed its documents in secret with the SEC. The news comes despite other solar and clean energy companies abandoning IPO plans, as Bloomberg points out.
“Am excited to announce that SolarCity has filed for an IPO. Mission is to bring affordable solar power to the people,” Musk tweeted.
