Paging Matt Drudge: journalist and immigration activist Jose Antonio Vargas and former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa may share one name, but that doesn’t mean they are the same person.

The Drudge Report tweeted out a link Tuesday to Vargas’ latest piece in Politico magazine, titled “Why I Turned Myself Into DHS,” that labelled Vargas a “former LA mayor.”

Whoever on Drudge’s staff tweeted out that link was probably thinking of Villaraigosa, who served as LA mayor from 2005-2013 and is Hispanic.

Vargas, however, is an undocumented Filipino immigrant. Earlier this summer Vargas was arrested and later released by U.S. Border Patrol while covering the border crisis in McAllen, Texas.

The Drudge Report’s home page also briefly linked to Vargas’ piece, although the link quickly disappeared.

  1. C’mon, it’s Drudge.

Does it matter if it’s right or wrong?

Isn’t it satisfying when their own words confirm what we know about Drudge and its readers? Namely, brown people are interchangeable, black people are interchangeable, etc.
