The Senate campaign of Rep. Joe Donnelly (D-IN) released this statement Thursday, in response to media inquiries about the candidate’s position on same-sex marriage:

Joe believes marriage is between a man and a woman. He believes it is an issue that each state should decide, and he is opposed to an amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Donnelly is the Democratic nominee against state Treasurer Richard Mourdock, who defeated longtime incumbent Sen. Dick Lugar in the Republican primary, in what is now a top-tier Senate race.
