Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick (R) said the New York Daily News “is wrong to discount the power of prayer” with its Thursday cover in response to America’s latest mass shooting.
The Daily News’ cover mocked politicians’ reaction of offering “thoughts and prayers” after mass shootings with the headline “GOD ISN’T FIXING THIS”. A shooting rampage left 14 people dead Wednesday in San Bernardino, California.
Patrick tweeted and Facebooked a photoshopped version of the tabloid’s cover, according to Texas Monthly. The headline on the photoshopped tabloid read “GOD HEARS OUR PRAYERS” while a bar above it read “14 Dead in California Mass Shooting.”
Why would Dan Patrick (or his staff) take this tweet down?! pic.twitter.com/GZClDw1k1S

“.@NYDailyNews is wrong to discount the power of prayer in dark times,” Patrick wrote in the tweet.
Patrick’s tweet and Facebook post were later deleted. He said he deleted the mock cover “so others cannot misrepresent it.”
I was disappointed by those today who suggested a different meaning to our tweet on the tragedy yesterday in California. (1/3)

“God Hears Our Prayers” means we can be reassured that God is in our lives as we seek Him out for peace, comfort, and understanding. (3/3)
