Jon Stewart discussed the congressional race playing out in Staten Island during Tuesday night’s “The Daily Show.”
Stewart noted that Democratic candidate Domenic Recchia is losing in the most recent polling despite out-fundraising incumbent Rep. Michael Grimm (R-NY), who has been charged with 20 federal crimes.
Stewart debuted a new segment in honor of the race called “Wait, How the Fuck Does That Happen?” to determine how Recchia could possibly be losing.
“One clue came when Recchia was out getting the Schumer endorsement,” Stewart said. “Keep your eye on old Chuck Schumer and watch for the moment when Schumer starts to endorse the tops of his shoes.”
He then showed a clip of Recchia bumbling through his answer to a question about his foreign policy credentials.
“Foreign policy what? I met a Japanese foreign exchange student, it’s all good.” Stewart said to sum up Recchia’s response.
“It’s not a good sign when even Chuck Schumer does not want to be on camera with you,” Stewart said. “Chuck Schumer. That’s a man who seeks out little red recording lights like a sunflower growing towards the sun.”
Stewart played more clips that showed Recchia looking unprepared and unpolished while Grimm received applause.
“The Democrats are blowing this,” Stewart said. “Either way I think we can agree the real winner here is New York’s eleventh, because whatever happens between now and November, one of these two gentlemen is going to be representing you in Congress.”

Is Staten one of those islands where for generations there was no intermarriage with people off the island, resulting in serious genetic consequences?
nah… it’s just dems doing what they always do… no strategery whatsoever… i guess the house dems didn’t realize that staten island has congressional representation and might need a bonafied candidate or two…
