Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who served under President George W. Bush, on Saturday urged the Republican party to be more inclusive.

“We have a responsibility to those who do not yet have the liberties and the rights that we enjoy,” Rice said about immigration policy at the annual California Republican convention, according to Reuters. “We cannot abandon them … We were once them.”

Rice said that the GOP needs to be more inclusive on issues like immigration, but she also touched on job growth, individual liberties and education in her speech.
