Former Vice President Dick Cheney voiced support for President Obama’s drone program, in an interview that aired Tuesday.

“I think it’s a good program,” Cheney told CBS’ Charlie Rose. “I don’t disagree with the basic policy that the Obama administration has pursued in that regard.”

Cheney said he supported the killing of Anwar al-Awlaki, an American citizen and Al Qaeda cleric, in Yemen. “He was clearly a part of Al Qaeda,” Cheney said.

Asked whether there should be checks and balances on the drone program, Cheney said: “I think when we hire the President of the United States, he gets to live in the big house, makes all that money. He’s getting paid to make difficult, difficult decisions.”
