Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) sent a letter to the Department of Homeland Security on Thursday asking whether anyone was ordered not to arrest a former Senate intern who was was a registered sex offender and allegedly in the country illegally.

Luis Abrahan Sanchez Zavalet was an unpaid intern for Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and was arrested earlier this month on immigration charges. The Associated Press reported that a U.S. official involved in the case said the arrest was delayed by DHS until after Election Day. Chaffetz asked DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano to have her agency respond to his letter by Jan. 3.
