Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) said Thursday he hopes the House will pass immigration reform before it addresses the debt ceiling this fall.

“I would hope so,” he told reporters. “I hope so.”

Boehner reiterated his support for reform but saying he wants to let the regular process play out.

“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. We need immigration reform,” he said. “It’s good for our country and frankly it’s the right thing to do. That’s why the committees in the House will continue to do their work.”

“We’re going to do this in a common sense, step-by-step way.”
