Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, a potential 2016 Republican presidential candidate, called for oral contraceptives to be made available over the counter in an op-ed for the Wall Street Journal published Thursday evening.
As a conservative Republican, I believe that we have been stupid to let the Democrats demagogue the contraceptives issue and pretend, during debates about health-care insurance, that Republicans are somehow against birth control. It’s a disingenuous political argument they make.
Allowing birth control to be purchased over the counter would put “purchasing power back in the hands of consumers” and take the issue out of the political arena, Jindal wrote.
