A Houston-area pastor shot and injured a burglary suspect at his church early Tuesday morning, the Houston Chronicle reported.
Police said a pastor at the Church of New Beginnings in Baytown, Texas, about 30 miles from Houston, was sleeping in the church office when noises woke him up just after 6 a.m., the Chronicle reported.
The pastor grabbed a gun, confronted the intruder and shot him, authorities told the newspaper. Police have not released the name of the injured man or further details of the incident.
I’m reminded of the time that Jesus gunned down the money changers in the temple.
Or the miracle of the loaves and the ammo clips…
Thou shalt not kill.
Sadly, this is what to expect in Texas when seeking sanctuary and solace–an armed welcome, followed by bullets.
I wonder how Matthew 5:38-39 reads in the translation that pastor uses. Because in mine (NIV), Jesus says:
“You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, tooth for tooth.’ But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person.”
Maybe his translation reads, “But I tell you, Blow that mofo away.” Some of those Greek words can be tricky to interpret sometimes.
If he’d killed the guy, he could have renamed his church, “The Church of Sudden Endings.”
