Top Senate GOPer: ‘Be Realistic,’ Full Obamacare Repeal Won’t Happen

Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY), the No. 4 Republican in the Senate, on Wednesday said that the GOP should be “realistic” and target specific components of Obamacare if they take control of the Senate, rather than push for a full repeal.

Barrasso noted that President Obama wouldn’t support a full repeal, making an attempt pointless.

“While the president, I wouldn’t expect to sign on to repealing the whole health care law, I think we should be focusing on parts of the health care law that have been hurting patients as well as providers as well as our economy and then systematically stripping away the very worst pieces of the health care law,” he said on WPBI radio, according to audio captured by Buzzfeed.

When pressed on whether he expected a vote to repeal the health care law, the senator didn’t rule it out, but again indicated that it was pointless.

“Well, I would imagine there will be a vote on repeal, but I — let’s be realistic, Barack Obama is still going to be in the White House for another two years, and he is not going to sign that,” Barrasso said. “I want to put things on his desk that he would actually give true consideration to signing, because they’re good for our economy, they’ll get people working again, and they’ll help move the country forward.”

They keep saying this, so I’m really going to need them to give me some examples of how families are being hurt, and how the economy is being damaged by the ACA. It has to be some proof out there, if they keep saying this. Right?

  2. Funny…I can’t recall previous examples of republicans demanding others to embrace reality.

I guess maybe this is just the first time it’s been in their interest to request it?

And exactly how many such things have you voted for and supported in the last six years? How many of his nominees have you held up rather than support the idea that both they and the President deserve an up-or-down vote? As part of the Senate leadership, exactly how have you provided any leadership to see that the needs of the American People are addressed?

    I haven’t.

  4. That certainly did not stop the House from voting to repeal it some 20+ times did it?

Also according to Politico, the GOP already has plans to vote for a repeal if they take the Senate.
And I bet Barraso will be right there, voting YES.

Don’t listen to what they say, remember what they already DID.

  5. This is the typical Republispeak, for we will not repeal the entire thing at one time, but we hope to slowly kill it by 1,000 cuts, that will ultimately render it worthless, and prolong the pain we inflict on people with health problems. Of course for the next two years, they will not utter one word, or render any proposals as to what they will replace it with.

What is clear, is that these rubes are already making their evil plans of what to do from day one, BEFORE they even know if they have won the Senate. The truth is nothing will change, and nothing of merit to average Americans will get done with the corporate fascist party having control over 2/3rds of this government, so personally, I hope this President spends the next two years paying them back for their outrageous crap, that have caused Americans to suffer, and stop everything they try to do in it’s tracks. He does not have to run again, so give them every bit as much hell as they have given you for 6 years Mr. President.

They are going to do what they always do, overplay their hand, and think that the majority of Americans gave them the right to govern by their extremist policies, when the truth is, only a tiny segment of this population voted for them in a handful of states. My prediction is, they will destroy themselves for 2016.
