Kentucky Democratic Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes’ campaign said Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) can’t “tell the difference between fact and fiction” in response to McConnell saying Kentucky’s state-based Obamacare exchange, Kynect, should stay intact while Obamacare itself should be repealed.
“Mitch McConnell has been in the fantasyland that is Washington for so long that he cannot tell the difference between fact and fiction. McConnell has voted to destroy Kynect – and he has said he will do it again,” Grimes campaign manager Jonathan Hurst said in a statement. “In the U.S. Senate, Alison Lundergan Grimes will fix the law to ensure it is working for all Kentuckians.”
That statement is in response to McConnell’s campaign arguing that Kentuckians should be allowed to keep the state exchange even while Obamacare is totally removed.
“If Obamacare is repealed, Kentucky should decide for itself whether to keep Kynect or set upa different marketplace,” McConnell campaign spokeswoman Allison Moore told TPM on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, the editorial board of the Lexington Herald-Leader, one of the biggest newspapers in Kentucky, strongly criticized McConnell for his new statements on Kynect as it relates to Obamacare.
“Repeal the federal law, which McConnell calls ‘Obamacare,’ and the state exchange would collapse,” the editorial said.
