Rick Perry’s new surrogate, Gov. Bobby Jindal (R-LA), is taking to his role with gusto, responding to criticism of Perry’s Social Security rhetoric in classic Republican fashion: “Quiet, you’re starting to sound like a Democrat.”

From CNN’s Peter Hamby:

“I don’t think any Republican candidate should be engaged in the same kind of demagoguery, the same kind of negative political attacks we would expect to see from the Democratic Party,” Jindal said when asked about Romney’s Social Security offensive.

Jindal compared Perry’s rhetoric to Rep. Paul Ryan’s (R-WI) House Republican budget plan, which called for the elimination of Medicare in favor of a voucher system. And just like Ryan, Jindal said, Perry’s bravery on entitlements is not being recognized enough it its own time.

“Every time folks like Paul Ryan or Rick Perry are brave enough to talk about entitlement reform, we see the ‘Mediscare’ attacks, we see attacks, that this an intergenerational attack or class warfare, we see those same type of attacks over and over,” Jindal told CNN. “I don’t think Republicans should be doing that.”
