Looks like the Democratic political machine is taking another step closer to the thousands across the country in the streets as part of the Occupy Wall Street movement.
The House Majority PAC — a Democratic Super PAC focused on boosting the party’s numbers in Congress next fall — is going up with a six-figure TV ad campaign aimed at casting vulnerable Republicans as beholden to Wall Street while ignoring the needs of the middle class.
The TV ads target GOP Reps. Dan Lungren (CA), Charlie Bass (NH), Bill Johnson (OH), and Sean Duffy (WI.)
The Duffy ad, which you can see below, picks up on what Democrats have been saying about the tea party-friendly freshman (and former Real World star) for months — namely, that he’s an out-of-touch Hollywood-type who says he “struggles” on his $174,000/year salary. The ad also mocks the Duffy family tradition of enjoying sushi flown into Wisconsin from the West Coast, as explained in this video by Duffy’s wife (scroll down to see it.)
Democrats have been having a lot of fun with Duffy over stories like that.
But going beyond the old messaging, the ad recasts Duffy as a tool of Wall Street. That plays right into the perceived grievances of the OWS protesters, and is yet another sign that Democrats are finding ways to embrace the still-nebulous protest movement.
“Whether it’s House Republicans protecting profits for companies that ship jobs overseas or lowering taxes for Wall Street while middle class families are struggling on Main Street, House Majority PAC will make sure Republicans have plenty to answer for back home next November,” the PAC’s Executive Director, Alixandria Lapp, said in a statement.
